Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, & Jamestown

When Ben & Donna came to visit last October, they asked us about meeting up in 2022 in Colonial Williamsburg. We discovered that the homeschool discount days were in late September, so we made our reservations and met up in Virginia!

Getting ready for their first day in Williamsburg! Donna made the kids these awesome t-shirts.

We started with a tour of the Governor's Palace.

We all worked on this puzzle over our 3 nights in the air BnB.

It was chilly on our 2nd day! We started off with a tour of the Capitol.

We ate our picnic lunch in front of the mid-day auction.

We took the tour of the justice system in the Courthouse; Austin was chosen to be a judge while Amelia played a part in the drama.

We ate all our meals in our apartment or packed food to ensure that both William & I could eat safely. There were a lot of giggles around this table.

The apartment was part of a resort that had a clubhouse that included 2 rooms of free arcade games. The kids had a blast with the dads during the 1st night; so Donna & I joined them for the last evening.

Playing games together

They finished the puzzle on our last morning together!

On Saturday, we checked out and headed to Yorktown Battlefield NHP.

They had a great museum with dioramas that fascinated all of the kids.

We walked down to watch a fife & drum corp parade.

Then we did a driving tour of the battlefield so the kids could complete their Jr Ranger program.

Everyone ate lunch in the van on the short drive to Jamestown NHP.

Working hard on their Jr Ranger books here.

William had to leave early in the afternoon to start their long trek back to Georgia. He and Colleen were such buds for those few days.

We spent a bit longer exploring the site & watching the blacksmith.

The kids stayed so long and asked so many questions of the blacksmith that he gave them each an iron nail that he had made as a keepsake. (with promises not to tell anyone!)

We snagged a geocache in the visitor's center on the way out.

Just a short time after starting our evening drive towards home, Colleen was wiped out.

We had such a heart-filling time! To be able to explore and learn together is a treasure.
