Memorial Day Weekend, Butterflies, & Chalk Artists

Some friends invited us to their Memorial Day BBQ. Amelia snagged Tate and held him as often as possible.

For the first time in her life, Amelia let me put product in her hair and diffuse it. Hello wavy hair!

Blueberry picking with our homeschool group

Fun at a park afterward

We went to see the butterfly exhibit with Kailey and her kids.

Santa Barbara has a huge iMadonnari festival every year; they have dozens of chalk artists who decorate the area in front of the Mission. We went and completed a scavenger hunt within the drawings.

A Wardrobe & Returning Froglets

Our bowling passes are being well-used!

Beach afternoon date with Kailey & the kids. Amelia soaked in baby Fischer snuggles & played with the kids.

Austin & Colleen dug as hard and fast as they could for an hour.

A local private school put on a performance of the Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe. After watching the performance with friends, we stopped for a photo in front of the theatre.

The performance was on the campus of Westmont College. We learned that they have a wardrobe that was purchased from the estate of CS Lewis and is believed to have been the inspiration for the wardrobe described in the book. This Westmont employee took us to the wardrobe (in the lobby of the Liberal Arts department) and read to us the various descriptions and showed the kids the components of the wardrobe that match. We were all pretty awestruck.

On Friday, we determined that it was time to return our froglets to nature. We met up with friends at the pond where we originally obtained the tadpoles, but the water was no longer there. So we spent the morning traipsing around Ellwood Preserve. The kids climbed trees, hiked around, and also just sat and played in the dust of the hiking trails.

After returning home for lunch, we drove to Lake Los Carneros where Austin and Colleen made it their mission to find an access point to the lake so the froglets could be released safely. There was a grand sigh of relief by all of us when they were finally released.

Patrick was able to return home for the weekend. He had fun bowling with the kids and had this crazy start where they all bowled strikes for their first frame.

They keep improving!

We spent Sunday afternoon with Dad at the beach where Austin dug such a deep hole that the lifeguard came by and asked him to not dig any deeper.

Reagan Presidential Library Field Trip

As we have been winding down our school year, we have been covering the rise and fall of the USSR. So the kids and I headed back to the Reagan Presidential Library. We spent most of the morning exploring the exterior of the library and revisiting the exhibits that we wanted to spend more time at.

F-117A Nighthawk was a highlight for the kids

The rose bush border along the edge of the property was gorgeous!

The piece of the Berlin Wall was more meaningful to the kids after having studied it.

Colleen had wanted to return to the interactive exhibits.

We giggled at this herd of sheep along the hillside outside of the Air Force One building.

Revisiting Air Force One and Marine One was on the must-do list.

Connecting what we've read to an experience is the best!
