Patrick did hours of research to find us a place to getaway for Thanksgiving. He found this fun cabin in the Catskills on AirBnB so we thought we'd try them for the first time.
The view out the kitchen window and from the front porch.
Thursday was drizzly, but we enjoyed a very relaxing morning. We watched all 3 hours of Macy's adapted parade and enjoyed it while playing pool. We had picked up Cracker Barrel's Thanksgiving meal to reheat for the day, and it was so lovely to enjoy the day together as a family.
We did get out to the trail right down the road from the house and tackled two caches that afternoon. The kids were thrilled to find both one designated as "easy" (the big one in a rotted tree) and one designated as "tough" (one stuck in a knot hole in a fallen log).
This tough one we only found because Colleen got antsy; I attempted to distract her by having her balance on a log near our search area. And there the cache was in the log!
On Friday morning, we headed to some family friendly trails.
One led to this fire tower. We all climbed to the top of the stair rail, then I came down to take their photos.
We found 2 caches on this hike; one easy one under this staircase.
The other cache was brutal, but Patrick found it in the end. It was a "nano" sized one on this tree in a picnic area full of trees.
After lunch and rest time, we went out to try some roadside caches. We learned so much from the different ones we found.
We came home for a fire and s'mores. The kids were so excited to eat s'mores before dinner.
On Saturday, we headed to a Rails-to-Trails line for a lovely walk with gorgeous views.
Grabbing one more cache on the way home.
Afternoon of football, puzzles, books and snuggles.
We even had s'mores before dinner again!
We picked up a few roadside caches on our drive out of town.
Then we stopped at some gorgeous trails for a few more caches. This one was called "Stairway to Nowhere."
Amelia snagged a large cache hidden behind rocks in this crevice, but climbing down was tricky.
Last cache on these trails was tucked in this pile of rocks.
The kids loved the billiards table so much that at soon as they returned home, they went upstairs and created their own paper version to lay at the dining room table.
