Because ice cream is always fun.
He's sad that he's outgrown his astronaut costume. But he insisted on another go at it.
The library kicked off their summer reading program (space-themed!) with a morning of drawing with chalk. Austin started with the space station and ended up with a galaxy of space objects.
Impromptu park date with friends turned into Amelia leading everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance before their pretend kickball game.
Cooking the recipe from South Africa for our dinner - bobotie. It was actually very yummy.
Amelia had a list of activities from her Little Passports states that we had not had time to do during the school year. So she chose to create a game from Massachusetts Native Americans (Wampanaug) that used buttons and toothpicks.
Strawberry picking the morning after a LOT of rain. We came prepared for the mud - the tractor driver commented on how well they were prepared. Mandy & I have planned a full summer of fun with our kids; this outing started it off.
The farm had a new "Evergreen Adventure Maze". It will be cool once the trees have grown larger, but for now it was a fun place to run around the trees.
Feeding the goats, pony and rabbits carrots. If only these animals knew how hard we tried to get them "normal" carrots, but ended up with 5lb of organic ones....
More friends arrived to join us for feeding the animals and a little park time. Luke, Jack & Austin all just finished Kindergarten.
We had been saving their Christmas stocking $5 gift cards for the Dollar Tree to stock up on entertainment before our flight to Texas. Austin ended up buying 5 items for his "workshop". But they were all SO happy to have free reign (except Mom said no food). But since it still took us a half-hour to make decisions on how to spend $5, I don't think they're ready for any larger quantities.
Fun test car the kids and I saw driving home.
Another experiment from Amelia's Kentucky book. She had 6 different liquids with different densities and colored them. She poured them into a mason jar to make a "liquid rainbow".
Making her birthday cake
The library had a space-themed art project one evening - the kids drew with crayons, pushing really hard. Then they painted over their drawings with watered-down black paint. It made it look like the drawings were in space.
Park date with friends!
Summer days are wearing her out.
This week's project was getting Dad's new bike outfitted with a seat for Colleen. He got it installed and took it for a test ride.
We found our paintings displayed at the library when we went to pick up more flight entertainment.
Impromptu picnic lunch outside in the tent
All the rain has given us the best garden we've ever had so far.
