On Saturday night, we enjoyed a Christmas Eve service at our church. Since our church didn't hold service on Christmas morning, we had a slow, relaxed time together as a family at home. The kids were able to chat with their grandparents and enjoy playing with their gifts throughout the day.
We gave Carcassone to the family and spent much of the day playing it!
Our local 4-H prepares meals to be picked up on Christmas day by members of the community. They needed volunteers, so we took a shift packaging the meals into bags & running them out to cars as they pulled up.
Austin had complained about his belly hurting for much of the day but also found energy to jump on the trampoline & goof off, so we didn't take him too seriously. Well, he ended up with a stomach bug in the late afternoon. The girls played with their new things all evening while we cleaned & took care of Austin.
The next few days consisted of quiet family time activities - Austin rested & recuperated. Patrick and Amelia baked a lot. We all read books and watched movies.
We were finally able to get good weather + good health on the same evening to go to Turtleback Zoo for the Christmas lights. Bob & Erica met us.
Standing in line for the train
On the train!
Austin is really into the touch tank now.
Fun with Christmas gifts
We had hoped to hike a lot more during our week of vacation, but Austin's belly + weather kept us in for a few days. But we did enjoy one nice long hike later in the week.
They played in the ice in this creek for a long time.
"I found it!"
Mom had an incident with mud. Thankfully it's washable!
We snagged some super-unique caches. One had a tic tac toe puzzle on top to solve; another required a 9V battery.
She's almost too big to be swung around by Daddy.
Cache in a screwdriver hanging in a tree - creative!
On Thursday, we had plans to take Patrick roller skating. But the roller rink was packed beyond belief - the line to enter was wrapped around the parking lot. So we made an impromptu decision to go geocaching in that area.
