Snow Days

We've had the craziest week weather-wise in Virginia. About 4 inches of snow one day, then gorgeous 60 degree weather just 2 days later, then some of the worst rain I've seen in VA since we've lived here.  I guess winter is going to fight leaving.

When we woke up to all the snow, we started off the day making colored ice cubes to later take outside.

Amelia has not been a fan of snow on other snow days. So we spent the morning playing with snow inside. She ate a lot of it, did a lot of scooping and digging and had fun squirting colored water on it, turning it into slush.

Then after naptime, the snow had stopped falling and had turned into a light rain so we headed out to play. We threw some of our ice cubes out and let her go at the snow with more colored water. Snow was definitely more fun after all the morning activities.

I tried a squirt bottle but she doesn't have the strength for the trigger yet.

So we dumped the blue squirt bottle water into the red squeeze bottle to make Amelia's favorite color to say "purple".

Helping Daddy shovel the sidewalk

No Daddy, let me do it.

For some reason Patrick wanted to make a mound of snow and get Amelia to sit on it. You can tell she was not a fan of the idea.

But sitting in Daddy's lap was acceptable.

She watched Daddy make snowballs and throw them at Mommy so she asked for one.

She was pretty disappointed when she threw it and it landed with a flop at her feet. Oh well.

Coming inside for (not-so-hot) chocolate and blondies might have been the best part of the snow day.

The following day was equally slushy so we didn't get out much. Amelia decided to take my vacuum and spend the morning vacuuming under the table. I can't complain.

I saw this idea online and thought we'd try it - Amelia spreads finger paint on a cookie sheet, and then presses paper into it to pick up the design. She definitely still doesn't like to get her fingers messy, but was slowly convinced to play in it with wooden sticks and eventually her fingers.

Ok mom - too much paint on my hand. All done.

This girl is getting too grown up.

We needed to pass some afternoon time while Daddy was working, so we filled up the kitchen sink to let her 'wash' dishes. She LOVED it, but couldn't seem to understand why her shirt kept getting wet everytime she transferred water from one container to another. Since she was doing so right up next to her belly instead of over the sink, she kept getting wet!

Eventually the shirt was removed and she lasted a short bit before being all done. She has asked to wash dishes a few more times since then.

While we enjoyed our snow days, we're so ready for spring to be here!
